Anything you can do, Taycan do better...
.
“By the time the car makes its official debut later this year, Porsche says it will have done approximately
3.7 million test miles
.” WOW. As opposed to all Tesla owners being beta testers... Still hilarious to me that they’ll sell a “
Turbo”
model.
Words have meanings, Porsche!

I'm really curious to see how this car is received. For better or worse, Tesla still has had zero real competition, which is somewhat mind-blowing.

Yup. Sounds like this will start at $90k+, so it may steal some Model S buyers (if there are still any out there), but the Model 3 will still take 90% of the market in its price range until Audi and Volvo can start to make a dent.

Since they’ll be selling these to kids of the 70s and 80s, “TURBO” is just a button you push in your Atari and Nintendo game s to make things go faster for a little while.
So I guess it’s a return to form after years of stupid, complex “physical turbos” that belong in a museum.

3.7 million test miles
When I worked for an OEM, we used to call this “miles for smiles”.
Test mileage numbers have more to do with giving marketing a big number to quote than actually improving reliability.
Testing actual cars on actual roads is only a small subset of the reliability testing which goes on, and of the on-road testi ng, m ost of the value comes from surprisingly few actual miles covered . You can rack up an impressive number of miles easily by just blasting up and down the autobahn, but you don’t actually learn much f ro m it.
Which is not to say Porsche w on’t do a better job of reliability than T esla...

Would be interesting to know how that number compares with what they did with the 992.

Meh. Eventually, 'Turbo' to cars is just going to mean 'the faster version'. If you thought the same industry that would call something with 4 doors a coupe was going to drop the marketing cache built around the word 'turbo' just because no actual turbocharger is included in the vehicle...I got some bad news for you.

I didn't realize it won't have a b pillar. That may be my new favorite design element. I have an irrational love for b pillarless sedans and coupes.

Back in the 90s the turbo button on computers made them go slower .

I imagine you’d get a whole lot of feedback if you let employees take the car for a weekend (with the stipulation that they have to use it over the weekend - not just let it sit there). Things like wear and tear on the door hinges/handles, and all sort of interesting ergonomic issues would bubble up. In the software industry we call it “eating your own dogfood”. Not enough of that happens, sadly.

It’s very impressive! And the rush to market means they’ve owned the market for the last few years. Will be interesting to see how they do will some real competition.

Yeah, I truly believe that competition will bring it the best, given that all parties play fair. VAG has had some problems with that...
